T-Saturator by Techivation is a new smart, level-independent saturation plugin. Its high versatility gives you great control over your mix’s character and tone.
With T-Saturator, you can effortlessly achieve anything from screaming distortion to subtle warmth or enhanced dynamic range. Its smart technology works independently from input levels, ensuring no tone or character changes due to input level variations. It dynamically adjusts saturation levels, maintaining the consistency of your sound.
So, let’s start with the user interface. I liked its symmetrical, clean design. It offers plenty of controls, but the layout is neat and organized. The main knob in the middle is for Saturation level adjustment. On top of that, we have a quality selector and mix control. Underneath, we have the Crunch for the grit and Smash to control how the transients are affected.
Also, the Auto-Gain feature works lovely, in my opinion, and you also have the Make-Up Gain.
I really enjoyed the saturation types of the T-Saturator. It offers Tube, Tape, Clip, and Fold, all give different characters to your tone.
Tube offers the asymmetric response of vacuum tubes. I found it to be the most aggressive tone of the plugin. Tape is a magnetic tape drive with a lush, warm sound, while the Clip features soft clipping combined with an expander-type effect. This one, with high Crunch levels, increases the dynamic range of the signal. But my favorite setting was the Fold algorithm, as it is the softest of the four and acts like a gentle wave-folder. It becomes more complex as you increase the Crunch setting.
One of my favorite features of this plugin is the Frequency Range control. It comes really handy when you want to finetune your tone. You also have a switchable Mid-Side or Left-Right adjustment slider.
I believe you can use this plugin with any instrument, from vocals to guitars and drums to bass. It works really well with everything, according to my ears. I tested it with drums and guitars, and I really enjoyed the result.
Also, it offers everything you expect from a modern plugin, like UI scaling, selectable oversampling, sensible parameters, undo, and A/B. The plugin has some built-in presets, which I found to be decent overall. The amount is not that high and they need some tweaks and adjustments but they can serve well as starting points to find your sweet spots.
It is a great plugin, especially when you consider it free. You only have to go to the Techivation website and create a free account to download the plugin.
T-Saturator is available in VST, VST3, AU, and AAX formats for Mac and Windows.
