The newly launched PadScape Lite is a virtual instrument for Mac and Windows that will surely captivate pad enthusiasts. It’s packed with 9 meticulously crafted multi-sampled presets, each one promising to immerse you in deep ambient textures and sounds.
If you are half as into the pads as me, you will love PadScape Lite. It helps you create beautiful textures, god-like sounds, mellow ambients, soothing sounds, and more. It sounds to me that all nine presets have a different taste and sound pretty amazing. This is a great tool for adding atmosphere and motion to your tracks.
First, I must say that these nine presets are sampled presets. So, your possibilities of sound design are a bit limited. But in my experience, the samples sound so lovely that they do not require much design. The main inspiration was the Hydrasynth, used for sampling and combined with some rich effects.
You know me, I like simple interfaces. PadScape has plenty of controls, but they are pretty straightforward. The classic A-D-S-R controls are on the left-hand side of the interface. You don’t have to change anything there, as they sound pretty good. You will find the Filter with the Low-Pass and High-Pass options underneath them.
On the right side are the Panning and Tuning controls with the Main Volume slider. Underneath, you have the Modulation menu with a Depth knob to adjust the intensity of the modulation and the Rate to control the speed.
The cherry on top is the four effect modules on the bottom. You have distortion, delay, reverb, and chorus effects that shape your sound. I like the distortion; it adds a nice saturation and grit to the signal. But you have to use it wisely and subtly without overloading it. The rest all have the three classic controls and can be individually turned on or off.
There is also a mini keyboard in the middle to play your presets and listen to the sounds easily, which is a pretty cool addition, in my opinion.
For me, what the plugin lacks is a phaser. I love having a phaser in ethereal pad sounds to charm some magic effects.
When I tested the plugin, my favorite preset was the AurAtlas, which created a heaven-like atmosphere. I used it as a background for some psychedelic guitar parts, and it worked wonders.
If you really like pads, I also recommend you check out the full version of PadScape, which comes with 80 multi-sampled presets. The intro price until April 18th is $12.7, and later, it will sell for the regular price, which is $32.
I can see this virtual instrument being used in various genres. From psychedelic rock to breakbeats, these pads can enhance any track and add value to your projects.
