The Moogerfooger MF-103S 12-Stage Phaser, a re-invention of Moog’s classic MF-103 analog effects pedal, is currently available at an exclusive 85% discount on Plugin Boutique. For a limited time, this warm-sounding phaser, which has shaped music history, can be yours for only $9.99.
As a seasoned guitarist, I’m drawn to the analog phaser sounds. They’re full of movement and intensity, and they’ve left an indelible mark on music history. From the iconic sounds of Jimi Hendrix and David Gilmour to the modern interpretations by Radiohead and The Smashing Pumpkins, this pedal has been a key part of their sound. But it’s also one of those pedals that’s hard to replicate in the digital world, especially the vintage analog sound that carries so much nostalgia.
That is why I think this is one of the greatest deals for a guitarist. Moogerfooger MF-103S 12-Stage Phaser is probably my favorite phaser plugin with its warm and instant character, nostalgia, psychedelic, complex, and strong sound.
The user interface offers exactly the same as the plugin’s hard-to-find physical counterpart. We have the LFO part with the Amount and Rate knobs as well as the Hi-Lo switch. The Phaser part has the Sweep and Resonance controls along with the 6-stage to 12-stage switch. In the middle are the Drive and Output controls and Bypass and Timy Sync footswitches.
This phaser adds great character and movement to the sound, just as you’d expect from a good analog phaser. Just be careful when using the 12-stage phaser, though, because when I cranked up the resonance, the effect got pretty loose.
There are also more than 30 built-in presets, which are pretty well-made in my experience. You can use them as a starting point to find the effect you are after.
If you want a more traditional, stereotypical phaser effect, set the Resonance and Sweep to 5-6, adjust the Amount to the Stun, and set the Rate between 32 and 64. This setting will give you the classic phaser effect, and you can start experimenting from that point.
Another great addition I liked is the LFO stereo-mono switch, which you don’t have on the physical pedal. When set to stereo, the phasing happens in the stereo field instead of coming in front. I like it as it really opens things up.
You can use the MF-103S with other Moogerfooger pedals to get some extra features. You can route LFO info to modulation points on MF-103S. For instance, I really enjoy using this one with the Moogerfooger MF-104S Analog Delay. It gives great width and depth to my guitar sound as well as synths.
I believe you can use Moog Moogerfooger MF-103S 12-Stage Phaser with guitars, synths, and drum grooves, as well as vocals if you want some Camel-style vocal partitions.
If you want, Plugin Boutique also offers a full bundle of Moogerfooger plugins. There is also a 10-day trial period to see if you like them or not.
For only $9.99, this is one of the best deals you can encounter if you like the phaser effect. With the Plugin Boutique May promotion, you can get a free iZotope Ozone 11 Elements with any purchase. So, MF-103S and Ozone 11 Elements, together for less than ten bucks, is a deal not to miss, in my opinion.
Moog Moogerfooger MF-103S 12-Stage Phaser is available for Mac and Windows users in VST3, AU, and AAX formats.
