14 Best Guitar Amp Plugins For Great Tone 2025

14 Best Guitar Guitar Amp Plugins

If there’s something wonderful about the era we live in, it’s that you can digitally emulate almost any instrument or music production tool, and amplifiers are no exception. Although they may have been somewhat resisted in their beginnings, perhaps because they had low fidelity, we can currently find very successful options, so much so that you can even listen to the tubes break up.

Amp plugins can accurately emulate the signature tones of legendary tube amps and classic models and offer us a great deal of flexibility and convenience.

But are guitar amp plugins better than guitar amps themselves?

Well, no matter how successful the emulation is, it will always be a copy of an original model, as in this case, when talking about hardware units that amplify electrical signals and add tone to the sound. However, there is one aspect where there is no competition, and that is in practicality.

Being able to store, transport, and use an unlimited number of guitar amp plugins on a simple digital device is something that every musician should take advantage of. Try to imagine how much money you should spend and the room you would need to have all those amp options available in your home or studio.

For that simple reason, and because we love music production tools, we have put together this list for you, in which we will review paid plugins and also some free ones:

14 Best Guitar Amp Plugins 2025

1. Native Instruments Guitar Rig 7 Pro

Guitar Rig has been the undisputed leader in this category for many years, and it is no wonder since it offers many possibilities in terms of amps, effects, and sound design tools. In addition, all their emulators are based on recognized hardware units.

In its 7 Pro edition, Native Instruments focused on developing the integrated effects even further, and it really has achieved this. This is reflected in new options such as a cabin emulator, four new amps, a loop station, and many other functions that you can see in detail here.

I have always liked Guitar Rig for its ability to group its functions within racks to achieve new combinations and sounds. This edition offers new rack presets that sound very interesting. If you are thinking about expanding your arsenal of amps and effects, this is, without a doubt, one of the best options.

2. Neural DSP Archetype: Gojira X

Secondly, we have a powerful amp and effects modeling plugin developed in collaboration with the French metal band Gojira. In it, you will find three amp options, pitch effects, pre-effects, EQs, and many impulse responses (IR) options.

Believe me, here you will find everything you need to achieve, from crystalline to extremely aggressive guitar tones and climates typical of the genre.

Gojira X is the evolution of Gojira, initially released in 2021. Throughout its development, Joe Duplantier, guitarist and leader of the band, has worked alongside Neural to achieve this piece of metal artillery, and here you can see it in action.

You can use Gojira X in your DAW on macOS and Windows, and the Neura site states that it will soon be compatible with Quad Cortex, to be used from your pedalboard.

3. Positive Grid BIAS Amp 2 Elite

It’s time to talk about the BIAS Amp 2. This is another outstanding amp modeler that can cover all types of musical genres. From the tubes to the mics in the cabinet, every element is fully customizable, allowing you to not only replicate your favorite amps but also explore new combinations.

If you are the type of guitarist who enjoys tube sound, this is one of the best options you can get. The great thing about this plugin is that it focuses on creating custom amps and gives you all the tools to do so. Here, you can see it in action.

It also gives you access to ToneCloud, where you can access amps created by other users and even share your own. Although it may seem complex initially, I recommend you starting with the included presets and modifying the options to your liking.

It also includes an Amp Match option to capture the tonal character of your physical amplifier and apply it to your digital creations.

4. Bogren Digital MLC S_Zero 100

In this new edition, the MLC S_Zero 100 shows a significant evolution compared to its previous editions. It has gone from being a simple and friendly plugin to offering a deep experience for advanced users, which has been a good choice from Bogren Digital.

To explain it simply, from its interface, you can control the channel of the amp you choose, as well as the cabinet, the equalization, the speaker models, the microphones that take the signal, and the effects you want to add. This gives you absolute control over the sound. The rest is up to you.

It is worth mentioning the IRDX function, which can add dynamics to the response and thus better emulate the behavior of speakers in a real box. This, in terms of sound, adds quality and definition, and makes everything sound a little more natural.

Without much more to add, the MLC S_Zero 100 is another excellent guitar amp plugin option at a very reasonable price (currently $60).

5. Brainworx bx_rockergain100

In fifth place, we find this tube amp head created by Brainworx and based on the legendary Orange Rockerverb. If you are one of those guitarists who love those super saturated riffs in the style of bands like Slipknot and Korn, the Bx_Rockergain 100 can be your best ally.

In terms of sound, this plugin offers deep, heavy guitars with plenty of saturation and presence in the low frequencies. It includes an interface where you can find Clean and Dirty channels, noise gates, pre and power amp bypass, tight and smooth filters, delays, and many Cabinet IR options, and this is how this plugin sounds like.

In short, Brainworx offers a very moldable tube unit for hard rock and metal. You can use it in your DAW on Windows and macOS, and it will undoubtedly be a good choice for you.

6. AmpliTube TONEX (AI Modeler)

The Amplitube TONEX is one of the most complete options in terms of amp modelers, allowing you to control even the smallest detail. This plugin recreates classic amplifier models and modern equipment using AI-based technology as an interesting novelty.

The magic happens in the Modeler section, where you can choose various tone model type options, audio setup, and rig connections. Then, the software will create the desired sound based on the characteristics you choose and the sound of your instrument. Here, you can see the entire process in detail.

Each new amp you create can be registered with a name and a custom skin. In the ToneNet section, you can access amps and signal chains created by other users and share yours with the community.

7. Softube Marshall JMP 2203

If there is an amp that can be considered legendary, it is undoubtedly Marshall, and this emulator created by Softube honors it perfectly. We are talking about the classic model created in 1975, the Marshall JMP 2203.

This plugin captures the essence of the original amp, offering everything from bright cleans to powerful, overdriven distortions, all with the dynamic response and harmonic richness characteristic of Marshall tube amps, as you can see in this demo comparing it to a real 1977 JMP 2203.

Engineer Tony Platt meticulously recorded the cabinet options this plugin offers, and you can choose from four different microphone placements in stereo and various panning options. So, if you are looking for the sound of those legendary rock bands from the 70s and 80s, I recommend you take a look at this plugin.

8. Neural DSP Soldano SLO-100 X

In eighth place, we have another emulation of a piece of heavy artillery, the Soldano SLO 100, chosen by many famous rock and metal guitarists when recording in the studio. In its digital version, Neural replicates the power of this amp by adding some very interesting variants.

The SLO-100 X includes pre and post-effects, a graphic EQ, and hundreds of IRs to experiment with. In addition to its dense, harmonic-filled distortions, this plugin offers good versatility that adapts to a wide range of styles and tonal preferences. By browsing its presets, you will achieve different climates that can completely change the vibe of what you are playing.

It features two extra channels:

  • The Bright channel provides crystal-clear clean.
  • The Crunch channel provides warmer gain and saturation.

If you haven’t had the chance to try out a Soldano tube amp, the SLO-100 X can give you a good impression of what this amp does when it comes into action.

9. Aurora DSP Rhino

It’s time to talk about Aurora DSP Rhino. This powerful plugin offers an intuitive interface divided into different sections in which you can model different preamps, such as the Rivera Knucklehead and the Mesa Boogie Roadster. Thus, you can create everything from aggressive metal tones to clean and detailed, adjust their EQ, and IR.

I’ve spent quite a bit of time testing their presets, and I must say that they are solid. These include options like Monstrous Rhythm and Modern Rhythm, ideal for achieving heavy and dense riffs, or Ambient Lead for creating classic rock tones. You can experiment with more than fifty options. It also includes two effects channels and sixteen IR options.

Without a doubt, what makes a clear difference between Rhino and other amp modelers is its non-traditional approach, focusing creation on the customization of its parameters rather than emulating other amps. It also has an unbeatable price (only $29), and can be used in its standalone version from iPads or mobile devices, even more reasons to get it.

10. Nembrini Audio BST100 V2 (Best Value)

In tenth place, we have the Nembrini Audio BST100 V2, which is a plugin that also emulates the iconic Soldano SLO 100. With it, you can create harmonic distortions and, at the same time, find the necessary versatility to cover all types of genres.

As for its interface, in the main section, you will find Crunch and Bright channels, along with parameters to adjust the preamp and master. Here, you can see both channels in action.

The Cabinets section is where you really start to shape the sound, choosing from six different cabinet and Mic types, as well as noise gates and cleaning options. In the Impulses section, you can choose from and shape many IR options.

The BST100 V2 is an amp plugin that falls into the Best Value category, as it offers a large number of possibilities at an unbeatable price (you can currently purchase it for $27), so if you are looking for a powerful and versatile sound at a reasonable price, don’t hesitate to try it.

11. Diezel VH4

It’s time to talk about another successful emulation, this time based on the powerful Diezel VH4 created in 1994 by Peter Diezel and Peter Stapfer. Its greatest virtue focuses on the possibilities offered by its four independent channels (Clean, Crunch, Mega, and Lead), which you can access using different configurations:

  • The Clean channel is perfect for soft, warm tones to clean, punchy sounds. It also provides a smooth, dynamic response.
  • The Crunch channel is a little bluesier and stands out a little more in the low frequencies. Turning up the gain can achieve a nice distortion.
  • The Mega channel makes things a lot heavier, with a thick low and a well-compressed and powerful distortion.
  • The Lead channel offers a sound similar to Mega channel but with greater emphasis on the mids, which is ideal for memorable solos.

Here, you can see them in action. This makes the Diezel VH4 an excellent plugin for metal guitarists and those exploring complex and dynamic textures in alternative rock.

12. MeldaProduction MTurboAmp

If you are an amp modeling enthusiast, the MTurboAmp will give you plenty of options to have fun. This plugin emulator comes equipped with advanced modeling technology, offering an extensive collection of amps and distortions.

From classic vintage tube amps to more modern solid-state amps, MeldaProduction has done a good job of capturing the essence and distinctive tonal character of each one and allowing you to edit them in detail. Here, you can hear how each of their amps sounds.

You can also create your own amps from scratch and assign them their own tone, distortion channels, cabinet, and appearance. In my opinion, a very good option in terms of versatility of its functions and price (currently, it costs $49).

13. Chandler Limited GAV19T

Emulating well-known amps can be quite a challenge, and the Chandler Limited GAV19T gets the job done. Originally based on legendary units such as Vox and Marshall, this amp offers some features in its digital version that make it very versatile.

In it, you will find seventy-five IRs that allow you to obtain a variety of high-quality sounds, from crystal clear tones to crunchy guitars with nuances in between. Basically, it allows you to achieve a good old vintage sound.

In addition, in the FX Rack, you will find noise gates, pre and post-options, Delays, and a power soak knob to shape your guitars to your liking. As you will see, this is another excellent option to recreate a classic sound, and if you are interested in learning its functions in detail, you can do so here.

14. Nembrini Audio HIVOLT 103 CUSTOM

Last but not least, the HiVolt 103 Custom plugin is another gem from Nembrini Audio that you should definitely have in your arsenal. Inspired by the legendary Hiwatt DR103 used by great guitarists like David Gilmour, this plugin not only captures the essence and power of that iconic sound but also brings it into the digital world with precision.

Imagine having all the tonal nuances of the Hiwatt at your disposal, from its crystal clear cleans to its rich, natural overdrives – well, this plugin brings you closer to that.

The HiVolt 103 has two channels (Normal and Brilliant) and EQ and Presence parameters on the front panel. Cabinet section to choose between six options, and 4 microphone options to set in mono or stereo from the mixer. In the impulses section, you will find parameters to shape the IRs to your liking.

In short, another excellent option to make your guitars sound vintage at a very good price (currently $27).

6 Best FREE Guitar Amp Plugins

1. Neurontube

The first on this list is none other than the Neurontube Debut, created by Audiosingularity, and the amazing thing about this plugin is that it shapes the sound through AI. Both the character and appearance are based mainly on three iconic amp brands: Laney, Soldano, and Marshall.

It offers versatile tools, such as well-designed fuzz, delay, reverb, chorus, and compressor distortion pedals, and three cabinets that you can combine with seven microphone options. If that were not enough, it allows you to vary between different distances between the mic and the speaker to obtain different responses. Not bad for a free amp plugin.

With the amp head based on the Soldano SLO 100, you can recreate powerful, well-saturated, and balanced riffs, while with the amp based on the Laney TF 300, you can recreate that classic 70s sound typical of British circuits. You can see its functions and performance in more detail here. In the meantime, I recommend that you download it and try it yourself.

2. Audiority L12X Solid State Amp

In the second place, we find a free plugin based on another legendary amp: The Marshall Lead 12, originally released in the 80s.

The best thing about this plugin is that it gets straight to the point. It gives you those guitars that you want to hear when you turn on a Marshall without complex commands or endless options, and it really captures the essence of that sound very well.

Its knobs are exactly the same as the hardware version, with the addition of a boost channel in the preamp to enhance definition, a cabinet simulator channel, and a contour knob. You can choose between three preamp options, among which you will find one solid state and two tube preamps. Here, you can see the L12X in action.

In short, a really good option. I invite you to download it and start shaping your guitars with it. You can use it both from your DAW and in its standalone version.

3. Native Instruments Rig 7 Player

Guitar Rig 7 Player is the free version of this powerful plugin. While it includes a much smaller number of amps and plugins, it still offers some interesting options and the ability to navigate in one of the most flexible interfaces.

It can also serve as an introduction or trial version, in case you are thinking of purchasing the Pro version.

As for its possibilities, it maintains the realism that stands out in Guitar Rig and offers access to some of its featured amps, such as the Fire Seeker or the Jump, as well as several modulation effects that you can see in more detail here.

The best thing for me is that you can easily create different combinations by simply dragging and dropping, and if you are not interested in amp modeling, you can directly access its more than sixty presets, saving you some time.

Bonus Amp:

Klevgrand STARK

As a bonus and to finish this list, we have STARK, created by Klevgrand, which offers one of the most intuitive interfaces I have tried in terms of guitar amp plugins. Includes everything you need to shape your guitars quickly and easily.

This plugin breaks with the traditional amp simulator aesthetic and offers a more modern and comfortable design. It consists of four sections: amp, cabinet, room, and FX sections. You can choose between twelve amps and fourteen effects. Here, you can listen to its sounds in detail.

Through its combinations of effects, you can generate different environments. This plugin invites you to leave the traditional sound a bit and experiment. To get to the action quickly, it includes a presets section that you will see in the lower right corner.

Conclusion

From dirty and heavy guitars riffs to spacey and reverb-filled arrangements, everything you are looking for to shape your guitars will undoubtedly be found among these incredible options. Thank you for your time!
